To prevent the minimum pricing of alcohol
Sign NowIn 2016 our government plans to introduce new legislation that will put a minimum price on alcohol at 1 euro per unit. This has been put forward in order to help people regulate there alcohol intake. However we do not live in a nanny state. Our government should not be able to prevent us from the purchasing of alcohol. This tax on alcohol only intends to affects the poor as minimum prices don't affect the rich. Although its a very nice concept for the lads who run the country and afford to pay themselves ridiculous wages its not practical for the large degree of middle class and working class homes who have been hit by the past few struggling years the most.
How will the prices change?
The new pricing will break down as follows:
A 750ml bottle of wine at 11.5% strength is set to cost €8.63, which works out at €1.15 for a 100ml glass A pint of beer at 4.3% strength will have a minimum price of €2.44 A 700ml bottle of 40% strength vodka will cost €28 A 330ml bottle of beer at 4.3% strength will cost €1.29 – which works out at€30.96 for a slab of 24 cans A 2 500ml cans of cider at 4.3% strength will cost €4.30 A 4 500ml cans of cider at 7% strength will cost €14 let your voice be heard
