OHPA: Dental Import Crisis

The Oral Health Professionals Association (OHPA) has launched a national campaign to address the critical lack of consistent application of regulation for the dental industry. The aim of our campaign is to raise awareness amongst both the public and the Australian Dental profession and to that end we have created this online petition to assist us with our goals. OHPA will be lobbying our Government to deliver consistent regulation to the manufacture and labelling of custom made medical devices delivered to patients in Australia.. Specifically we will be lobbying both the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and Department of Health and Aging. OHPA will also be lobbying the Government to ensure that Dental Technicians and Dental Assistants are included in the second round of the National Health Practitioners Registration Scheme. Both groups of trained professionals are involved in the frontline delivery of oral health services to dental patients and therefore need to be registered for the public’s protection through better education standards and ongoing CPD programs. We urge members of the Australian dental profession to participate in the nation’s dental health discussions to tighten up policy and see the accreditation of all dental laboratories that are manufacturing for the Australian public by signing our online petition. We urge members of the Australian public to help us to ensure that the dental health of the Australian public is a priority by lobbying the Government to put an end to inconsistent regulation of imported and locally manufactured dental prosthesis in Australia by signing our online petition.
