Revise Mandatory Minimum Laws

The purpose of this petition is to address our concerns with the Protect Act and mandatory minimum sentencing. This Act states that its key objectives are fairness and consistency; however, the same sentence for varying criminal acts is hardly fair. Mandatory minimum laws are in desperate need of reformation. We propose that judges be provided with the discretion to determine different sentences for different cases. Also, the mandatory minimum sentence should be lower for non violent or first time offenders. "I believe the sentence that was given to this young man was much to harsh for the crime. There are people out walking the streets after only doing several months for violent crimes to harm others. Please reconsider this law and give this young man another"
